Bratislava Hosted the Regional Final of the European Law Moot Court Competition 2026
From 5–8 February 2026, the Bratislava Regional Final of the prestigious European Law Moot Court Competition (ELMC) took place on the premises of the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava.
The European Law Moot Court Competition ranks among the most prestigious student competitions in the field of European Union law and simulates proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
What the European Law Moot Court Competition Is
It is an international competition based on simulated court hearings in the field of European Union law. Teams composed of law students first prepare a fictional case and subsequently present their legal arguments before an expert panel.
During the proceedings, they appear in both procedural capacities:
- applicant
- defendant
The hearings are conducted primarily in English. As part of the event and its accompanying programme, French is also used, as it is among the traditional languages of the legal environment of the European Union.
Programme of the Bratislava Regional Final
The event took place over four days, and its programme was divided as follows:
- Thursday – formal welcome of the participants during the welcome reception
- Friday – preliminary rounds of the competition on the premises of the Faculty of Law of Comenius University
- Saturday – semi-final rounds and the grand final
- Final – ceremonially held in the representative Assembly Hall of Comenius University
Expert Panel
The advancement of the individual teams was decided by an international expert panel (judicial bench), composed of practitioners from Slovakia and abroad.
In its evaluation, it focused in particular on:
- the quality of legal analysis
- the persuasiveness of the arguments
- the standard of oral advocacy
We are pleased that our colleague Patricia Kobyliaková also served as a member of the judicial bench, thereby directly contributing to the professional course of the event.
Grand European Final
The overall winner from among the best European teams will be determined in the final round, which traditionally takes place at the European Court in Luxembourg.
